THE MACALLAN: THE GOLDEN AGE OF TRAVEL – THE OCEAN LINER
The Golden Age of Travel to be continues the product of the longstanding partnership between The Macallan and Lalique. The golden age of travel is the transportation back in time of the 1930s, to recreate the first era of international travel by road, rail, air and sea.
The exceptionally rare Macallan whisky in this first decanter was distilled in 1937, first bottled in 1971 at 34 years old, and rebottled in 2015. Like the era it celebrates, it is a rich and warm single malt with a refined sense of style. This is distilled two years before the outbreak of the Second World War, the whisky reveals clues about the distillation and maturation of The Macallan at this time; when a steam railway ran past the foot of the hill below the estate, bringing in raw materials and taking away deliveries of finished casks.
This is a whisky single malt that is warm, sweet and very delicate. The senses are touched by a scent of tropical fruits and spice reminiscent of a fine perfume. Next to the soft aromas of rose petals. Dark chocolate, roasted coffee beans and cinnamon slowly curled around the mouth to bring an exotic, aromatic and comforting. Finish with a hint of peat smoke is very delicate.
According to passion for the traditional handicraft, Lalique, the famous French crystal maker, has produced two unique versions, the first of which is a hand-blown and hand-crafted crystal with image of the ship, and the second version with features an illustration of an early passenger aeroplane, commemorating the glamorous days of trans-Atlantic adventures. Each set is accompanied by a beautiful crystal cup, each cup which is representing a different of travel in the 1930s. That is, the image of aircraft, steamers and ships. All of them were contained into a leather suitcase that is designed elegantly and handmade entirely by skilled handcraftsmen.
The Golden Age of Travel is the most unique and luxurious product of the partnership between Macallan and Lalique.
