Macallan was distilled in 1940 and was produced by Gordon & MacPhail for the Edoardo Giaccone, owner of the Whiskyteca in Salo, Italy.
This Edinburgh Crystal decanter contains 1940 vintage Macallan, and was produced to commemorate the 80th birthday of the late H.M Queen Elizabeth, The Queen Mother. Her birthday fell on August 4th.
Gordon & MacPhail helped Macallan survive during the 1930s and 1940s by buying a regular batch of stock from them, which in turn allowed them to release a lot of these special Macallan bottlings to the Italian market.
