YAMAZAKI 40 YEARS
- Rare and long-standing
An exceptional whisky, ‘The Century’, was distlled on 31st March 1960 and matured in a single Mizunara cask #ZD0550. This fortunate Mizunara cask was stored within warehouse 11 at Yamazaki distillery. This bottle is rarely seen at auction around the world.
This cask had been looked after by three master blenders in Suntory, however it eventually came down to ‘Chief Blender’ Seiichi Koshimizu and in consulation with the president of Suntory Shinichiro Torii. Only 300 bottles were produced and presented in a wooden box, which apparently was produced from the oak cask used to mature the whisky. Each bottle is packed in a volume of 700ml, the concentration is 43%.
- Strict in preserving meticulous hand-crafted details.
While the production is not enough to sell, try to increase production but the Japanese are still strict to maintain the meticulous craft details even on the bottles or product labels. That single cask would become Suntory’s first single cask single malt whisky – bottled in 2000 to mark the companies 100 year anniversary and the turn of a new Millennium. The crystal flask of the wine was hand-blown and cut by experienced craftsmen from Kagami Crystal Company Ltd, enough to see how deeply Japanese personality permeated the way they perfected each whiskey.
