Macallan 73 Years Old is the latest addition to The Red Collection, showcasing the craftsmanship, knowledge, and unparalleled skill of The Macallan’s master whisky makers, both past and present.
The Macallan Red Collection consists of 8 special and rare single malt Scotch whiskies. This collection is inspired by the contributions and legacy of the distillery’s founder, Alexander Reid, and other key figures in the distillery’s history. The Red Collection is selected from some of the oldest and rarest casks in the world, representing the pinnacle of the brand’s product range. The color red symbolizes significant milestones in The Macallan’s history, such as the “Choice Old” product line, an aged release from 1903 that reflects the distillery’s long-standing tradition of excellence.
This collection embodies the brand’s unwavering dedication to producing premium whiskies, as well as a profound respect for time, tradition, and craftsmanship.
Dating back to 1950, The Macallan 73 Years Old has attracted attention this year. Each bottle of Macallan 73 Years Old is meticulously handcrafted, with the bottling year, bottle number, and alcohol content handwritten on the label. The bottle also bears the signature of Euan Kennedy, the current master whisky maker at The Macallan.
This release is a collaboration with renowned Spanish artist Javi Aznárez, who contributed a series of dynamic images and unique illustrations to tell the story of this whisky and the distillery’s rich history.
The packaging of The Macallan 73 Years Old is equally impressive. Each bottle is housed in an exquisite oak case made from the same type of European oak used for whisky casks. The case is handcrafted in the UK and wrapped in sustainably sourced red leather from the famous Scottish supplier, Bridge of Weir Leather. Inside, the bottle rests on a bespoke oak plinth made from reclaimed end-of-cask pieces, which may bear the mark or lettering of the warehouse, making each plinth a unique part of The Macallan’s heritage.
