MACALLAN 77 YEAR OLD
The reason why the Macallan distillery is famous today is due to two factors. Firstly, the quality of their single malt whisky aged in sherry casks is truly excellent, and secondly, they are able to release truly old and expensive whisky bottles approximately once a year. The latest addition to this famous “club” is the newest member of the Red Collection, a 77-year-old single malt.
The special red color has been a part of The Macallan’s history since its founder, Alexander Reid, to the “Choice Old” range of The Macallan released over a century ago in 1903, to Allan Shiach marking the classic Macallan bottles with a red ribbon in the 1980s.
Along with this release, Spanish artist Javi Aznarez has created an animated film and illustrations to showcase the transformation of the Red Collection from the past to the present. “The 77-year-old Macallan is a remarkable new icon for the Red Collection, crafted from some of the oldest and rarest casks in the world,” said Kirsteen Campbell, Master Whisky Maker for Macallan, in a statement. “This is an extraordinary single malt that has matured exceptionally for seven decades to reach its pinnacle of perfection. This exquisite edition showcases The Macallan’s heritage of craftsmanship, knowledge, and skills nurtured in the past and present.”
The Macallan 77-year-old will be an extremely limited release and will be available at the distillery, through our global network of retail partners, and at select travel retail stores in some airports starting this month. It is a great time to collect this new edition for collectors, as we have recently reported that the whisky market has significantly increased in value in the past year.
