Glenfiddich 50 years Time Series
Glenfiddich Time Series is the renovation of 30, 40 and 50 year old expressions and will be launched globally in June 2022. For these expressions, we have redefined the concept of time in relation to single malt. The stories behind each of these three whiskies explores a different sort of time.
Ahead of this major comms launch we will be releasing a samll number of 50 year old decanters as an exclusive pre-sale for key customers and consumers.
Glenfiddich 50 year old has been made in the traditional manner. It is crafted with the same methods used in 1887 when the Glenfiddich distillery first opened. The whisky is a marriage of 3 different American oak casks, all matured in the same warehouse. The maturation began for one cask in 1966 and two in 1968. When the casks were laid in the warehouse it wasn’t known which ones would make it to fifty years. The alcohol content, volume and quality of the casks were assesed continously to see if they were suitable for further maturation. As the years went by, thousands of casks were continously assesed, but only three reached the rigorous conditions to reach fifty years.
For designing, the three sided decanter form is iconic to Glenfiddich. Originally relised by Hans Schlegar in the 1960s, it’s three faces pay homage to the three pillars os whisky production: water, air and malted barley.
The form is made of two opposing triangles – one at the foot and one at the shoulder. The dramatic transition between these two forms naturally reveals the eponymous valley as an elegant facet on each of these three sides.
Only 220 bottles of this liquid are to be released with each decanter individually numbered. And the exclusive pre-sale will release of first 71 bottles to key customers and influential connoisieurs.
