Balvenie 1963 cask 4567 was distilled on 28th March 1963 in European oak hogsheads and was bottled on 20th March, 2014 at 45.4% abv. It is limited to 131 bottles worldwide.
It has a deep reddish hue and a beautifully full taste characterised by dark fruits spice and European oak cask. The whisky 50 years is rich and deep, initial oakiness is followed by sweeter aromas of raisins and sultanas and a subtle ginger spiciness. Lush with rich dark fruits, including cherries and blackberries and a spicy outburst of ground ginger, cinnamon and allspice. Oak tannin and a delicious sweetness develop. Long, elegant finish brings a kaleidoscope of spicy and peaty notes that die out with a juicy burst and a loud call for another sip. Rich and spicy with dried fruits and a lingering sweetness.
Balvenie 1963 was handfilled at The Balvenie distillery into hand-blown glass bottles and are presented in the very special wooden cases. Handmade by Scottish craftsman Sam Chinnery, the cases consist of forty-nine layers of wood and a closing layer in brass, which echoes the fittings of the distillery’s stills and spirit safes.
