BOWMORE 1961 50 YEARS
- A heady liquid gem from the 1960s
“There are very few distilleries with the good fortune to be situated in just the right place on earth to be able to make one of the most exceptional and sought after whiskies in the world. Bowmore is one of those places. With pride, we distill our spirit and lay it to rest in the No. 1 Vaults, knowing that we can nurture it and wait for it to mature for 20, 30 and certainly even 50 years. This is what we have in the 50 Year Old Collection Series. Each year, I’ll be looking into the hidden depths of the No. 1 Vaults and revealing a heady liquid gem from the 1960s, certain to make collectors worldwide swoon.”– Rachel Berrie, Bowmore Master Blender.
The journey of this rare whiskey began on a very cold day in December 1961, this whisky was aged for 50 years in a pair of ex-bourbon hogsheads. After half a century of maturity, a heady liquid gem was born, which has fascinated collectors all over the world.
- Professional, meticulous, limited edition
“This 50 year old Bowmore is yet another wonderful example of the older whiskies that the Distillery has matured in our No. 1 Vaults warehouse, right on the shores of Loch Indaal. This rare whisky was slowly and expertly distilled using the old coal-fired stills used in Bowmore at that time and was then filled into ex-bourbon hogshead casks and carefully stored away in the No 1 Vaults. Now, the result of all that dedication and care, applied since 1961, is once again ready to be shared. The select people destined to sample the first taste of this special nectar are privileged indeed.” – Eddie Macaffer, former Bowmore Master Distiller.
Only 200 Bowmore 1961 bottles were released worldwide, each bottle packed at a concentration of 40.7% ABV with a volume of 700ml. The 50-year-old Bowmore 1961 is a work of real ingenuity using the finest materials of Scotland. The bottle is hand-blown by 2 Scotland artists, Mr. Brodie Naim & Mr. Nichola Burns. The burr elm display cabinet handcrafted by renowned carpenter Mr. Peter Toaig, who used the wood of a burr rubber tree grown in the Scottish highlands. Each set is accompanied by a 50-year perpetual calendar made of silver by the silversmith, Mr. Thomas Fattorini, allowing you to see past or future times.
- Rich fragrance
This 50 year old whiskey has a warm honey yellow color, sweet aromas of almond and coconut milk, combined with fruity notes of apricots and sugar-coated oranges, and a hint of black fungus and tea tree oil. When you take a sip of the wine you will feel an explosion of ripe fruit in the palate of figs, papaya, pomegranate and pineapple, interspersed with black mushrooms and mild smoke. The finish is a blend of marzipan, caramel pear and delicate peat oil.
