BOWMORE 1964 50 YEAR OLD
The Bowmore Distillery is considered to be the oldest distillery in Islay, which produced some special whiskeys in the 1960s – whiskeys that will get better as they mature over the decades. Great distillers, including legendary master of distillery Eddie MacAffer, used special barrels in the factory’s 1st vault to create special editions. They created Bowmore’s 50-year-old Vault Legends Collection Series with its first 50-year release titled Bowmore 1961. Then a second edition of the 50-year Series Collection was released in Stateside: Black Bowmore 1964 for 50 years.

The final rediscovered cask of Black Bowmore was distilled on November 5th, 1964 & bottled on November 1st 2016, matured for over 50 years in a cool, dark corner of Bowmore’s famous No.1 vaults. Only 159 bottles were produced and released globally, each bottle is bottled at a concentration of 40,9% with volume of 700ml. 50 year old Black Bowmore matured in seven casks of Sherry Oloroso, with four releases – in 1993 (29 Year Old), 1994 (30 Year Old), 1995 (31 Year Old) and 2007 (42 Year Old). But more than three years later, it was discovered that two of the barrels had quickly lost their precious amber color and so the two casks 3708 and 3714 were combined after a long sleep, were found in 2014 and released the fifth edition of the legendary Black Bowmore
