DALMORE 51 YEAR OLD
Dalmore, a 100-year-old distillery in Alness, Scotland, has released a rare 51-year-old single malt, called Aged 51 years. This is the first version of the new decade and reflects the pioneering spirit and enduring heritage of the whiskey distillery.
This was not the oldest version Dalmore had ever introduced. The 62-year version was introduced in 2002 and followed by the 64-year Dalmore in 2010
- The version contains special whiskeys.
Richard Paterson, master distiller at The Dalmore, said: “The Dalmore 51 Year Old is a noble single malt of rare profundity and it has been my pleasure to closely follow its maturation over five decades. I am always looking towards the future and I carefully consider how each distillation will evolve, moving our spirits to new wood to transform their conclusion. The Dalmore 51 Year Old is a fine example of this.”
Tasting notes for the 51-year-old include aromas of marmalade, balsamic, oloroso Sherry, caramel, molasses and pears soaked in tawny Port. The whisky was first matured in ex-Bourbon casks before being split between Port Colheita 1938 casks, Matusalem Sherry casks and first-fill Bourbon casks. The whiskies were then combined in specially selected Bourbon barrels. The rare expression will be presented in a crystal decanter and a high-gloss presentation case made from black sycamore wood.
On the palate, the whisky is said to have flavours of plums, raisins, ginger cake sprinkled with Demerara sugar and vanilla pods, leading to treacle sponge, hot chocolate, wholemeal toast, pineapple and sultanas on the finish.
Originally distilled in 1966, this limited-edition single malt was aged in a mix of casks that to showcase The Dalmore’s excellence in creating complex, vibrant malt that has been aged for a long time. Only the finest casks are chosen to create this whiskey. Start your journey in an old Bourbon cask made from American white oak found in the forests of Missouri. It was then placed in the 1938 Port Coheita cask for four years. Aging drags on for decades, resulting in a rich, complex amber liquid.
