Glen Grant 1956 (62 years)
In 2019, Gordon & MacPhail is PROUD to release this superb example of MR GEORGE URQUHART’S LEGACY. Glen Grant 1956 was distilled on December 13, 1956 in cask number 4455 and was bottled on June 27, 2019 at 51.7% abv.
Mr George’, as he was fondly known by those who knew him best, was Mr George Urquhart, second generation of the family that owns Gordon & MacPhail. Joining the business in 1933, Mr George began his career working alongside his father, John, who became sole owner of the company in 1915, after James Gordon’s retirement and John Alexander MacPhail’s passing.
Over the years, Mr George developed a deep understanding of Scotch whisky, especially the unique interaction that occurs over time between spirit and cask. He was instrumental to the success of Scotch whisky, championing single malt at a time when blends were the norm. His philosophy and legacy live on today as Gordon & MacPhail continues to create a unique depth and breadth of rare single malt Scotch whiskies found nowhere else in the world.
Taste.
▪️Colour: darkest mahogany.
Aroma: rich fruit cake aromas complement notes of raisin and dried fig. Dark molasses entwines with seville orange peel leading to beeswax polish. Fresh roasted walnut and burnt toffee notes come to the fore.
▪️Taste: sweet initially with bursts of vibrant citrus. A slight humidor edge transforms into juicy sultanas and dark chocolate coated coffee beans. Liquorice toffee flavours develop alongside mature charred oak and mouth-warming spice.
▪️Finish: long and complex; subtle hints of smoke with lingering dark liquorice.
