Hankey Bannister master blender Stuart Harvey has blended a number of different Highland malts that have aged in Spanish oak for 40 years, including a rare 1970 Sherry Hogshead and 1967 Sherry Cask.
International Beverage describes the non-chill-filtered, 44.3% abv whisky as delivering vanilla and cake dough on the nose with notes of figs, dates and cinnamon on the palate.
Hankey Bannister 40 Year Old is presented in a curved decanter with a bold stopper in a collector’s edition gift box.
Just 1,480 of the gilt-engraved decanters will be made available in total, with just 500 released 2013. The remainder will be rolled out in stages over the course of 2014 and 2015.
Nose: Warm and sweet. Spiced chocolate mixed with mulled raisin hidden beneath.
Palate: Completely enrapturing, it has a buttery soft glow that sparks with spicy moments.
Finish: A twinkle of fruit lasts. And lasts. And lasts some more.
