Laphroaig distillery is located by Loch Laphroaig on the south coast of Islay, it was built in the 1815s by Donald and Alex Johnson. After Donald’s death, the distillery was sold to Bessie Williamson, the only woman in Scotland to own a distillery. The malt used in the Laphroaig distillery is in the top 10 of the best malts in the world.
In the period 1900 – 1940, Berry Bros were the greatest wine merchant in the world, supplying not only the British Royal Family, but all the crowned heads of Europe, and most heads of state as well. Because of their success and their clientele, they had the absolute pick of the barrels and the whiskies and cognacs bottled under their name in this era are regarded as of absolutely incomparable quality.
