Old Pulteney Bow Wave 45 Years
This year, Old Pulteney revealed the oldest whiskey in its 197-year history: “Old Pulteney Bow Wave 45 Years Old” a testament to the distillery’s enduring spirit, patience and pride. It was designed by Brodie Nairn and Nichola Burns of Glasstorm. Old Pulteney Bow Wave special and rare Single Malt 45 years old was matured for more than 40 years in American oak barrels, and then placed into a first-fill Spanish oak butt for an additional five years. The bottle itself is made from hand-blown glass with cuts meant to mimic crashing waves around a ship in stormy seas.
Brodie Nairn and Nichola Burns, designers at Glasstorm, said: “This whisky is the jewel in Old Pulteney’s collection, and we wanted this piece to celebrate not only their oldest ever whisky, but the character and personality of the Maritime Malt itself. Coupled with our personal fondness of the Caithness Coast, we were dedicated to deliver the best craftsmanship and create a work of art worthy of the liquid gold inside.”
The stunning Old Pulteney Bow Wave 45 Year Old is not only the oldest whiskey in its 197-year history but also a symbol of Old Pulteney’s dedication to craft. Presented on a base of Caithness slate, the bottle is crafted from hand-blown glass with intricate cuts that reflect the crashing waves. The bottle’s deep blue color recalls the endless depths of the ocean, while the golden whiskey shines like a reflection of the morning sunrise. The cork is hidden inside the glass sculpture and can only be accessed via a specially crafted key. The motif around the bottle is made of silver to represent the lapping ocean waves, all delicately placed on a dark gray slate from the distillery in Caithness.
