CHIVAS ROYAL SALUTE 90TH ANNIVERSARY
On February 6, 1953, 25-year-old Princess Elizabeth of England ascended the throne and became the head of state of the Commonwealth, taking the name Elizabeth II. The Queen has held the position for nearly 65 years, surpassing Queen Victoria’s record of 63 years and 216 days, and is the longest-reigning monarch in British history. Queen Elizabeth II’s coronation ceremony was held at Westminster Abbey in London on June 2, 1953. Chivas Brothers, a whisky distillery in Scotland, organized this special event and introduced the extraordinary Chivas Royal Salute 90th Anniversary to commemorate Queen Elizabeth II’s 90th birthday and her 65th anniversary on the throne.
This magnificent gift was presented by Peter Moore, the global brand director of Royal Salute, to Prince Philip, the husband of Queen Elizabeth II, at the prestigious “Royal Salute Coronation” event at the Guards Polo Club in late July 2016. The royal husband, Prince Philip, accepted the precious birthday gift on behalf of the Queen.
To celebrate the Queen’s 90th birthday, Royal Salute took the opportunity of the Coronation Cup to introduce a very special limited edition blend to commemorate this important event, with only five bottles produced. Its extreme rarity comes from the selection of precious aged Scotch whiskies to create the blend, each from a different decade under the reign of the Queen. Furthermore, the blend of whiskies chosen for the limited edition 90th Anniversary commemorative release was meticulously hand-selected from Scotland’s historic distilleries such as Strathisla, The Glenlivet, Longmorn, Scapa, and Tormore.
Inspired by the colors of the Queen’s wardrobe, ceramic artist and renowned British colorist Natasha Daintry has chosen vibrant colors such as lemon yellow, peach, lime green, and turquoise to create the design of Royal Salute. Each of the five bottles represents a different design and color, showcasing Daintry’s creativity and uniqueness. Each bottle is like a vibrant summer painting in an English water garden, filled with the fresh colors of leaves and blossoming flowers. Natasha Daintry, the ceramic artist, was honored to be chosen to design and create this edition of Royal Salute. With over 20 years of experience, Daintry has brought forth a stunning piece of art that contrasts with the traditional amber and deep blue bottles of the Royal Salute brand. She utilized 17 layers of colors from distinctive British flower and leaf patterns, making it come alive on the pure white porcelain. The eye-catching and innovative design of this edition brings forth its uniqueness and rarity to Royal Salute. Currently, one of the five editions of The Royal Salute 90 is part of a private collection in Vietnam.
