We are excited to see what auction raises, the opportunity to transform the lives of disadvantaged young people is one we are committed and delighted to support” – John Laurie, Managing Director, The Glenturret.
The Glenturret is a traditional distillery that has nestled in the ‘Hosh’ surrounded by rolling Perthshire countryside. Defined by its outstanding quality and exquisite taste this single malt is crafted entirely by hand in exclusive small batches; no computers here, only whisky making wisdom.
The 1987 release was conceived in collaboration with Glenturret’s partners in art and creativity at Lalique, the renowned French master of crystal for over 100 years. There is only one in the world, and this is it… a hand-blown Lalique decanter in jade-green crystal, designed by Lalique Head Creative Designer Marc Larminaux, encasing the decanter, the ‘One of One’ chest is a piece of art in its own right, sculpted by renowned Scottish cabinet maker Callum Robinson and that is Glenturret 1987.
Influencing Callum in design was the confluence of the Glenturret’s location – on the banks of the Turret River – and the sophisticated organic lines of Lalique’s crystal ware. From the first, he tried to pay homage to that sinuous Art Nouveau elegance, whilst also evoking a sense of place and of timelessness befitting Scotland’s Oldest Working Distillery. Handcrafted from rippled white Scottish sycamore, the chest took over one hundred hours to produce and was intentionally crafted using both a material and a quality of finish that calls to mind pearl, bone, or ivory to keep the tones of the palette neutral to allow the stunning jade-green crystal decanter and the liquid within to take centre stage.
Originally owned by Sir Patrick Murray of Ochtertyre, The Glenturret Distillery is mentioned in the purchase records of the Barony of Ochtertyre as far back as 1763. Today, the distillery remains nestled in its original location on the edge of the historic town of Crieff.
